drug overdose deaths in New Hampshire in 2019

In 2021, SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) reported that one out of every ten residents in New Hampshire had used illicit drugs in the past month. The nationwide increase in addiction rates is alarming, with the prevalence more than doubling between 2019 and 2021. What’s even more troubling is that over 75% of individuals in need of treatment for substance use disorder, the clinical term for addiction, do not manage to access treatment. A significant barrier to seeking help is the lack of knowledge about how to obtain assistance, as cited by one million adults in the U.S. who did not receive the necessary addiction treatment.

To address this substantial treatment gap, substance abuse hotlines in New Hampshire play a crucial role. These hotlines offer unbiased guidance and assistance in connecting individuals with treatment providers across the state.
